Average Joe's Roofing Introduce
For homeowners across Manitoba, particularly in Winnipeg, the roof over our heads is more than just a cover; it's our first line of defense against the diverse and often extreme weather conditions we face. From heavy winter snowfalls and ice dams to spring rains and summer thunderstorms, a reliable and well-maintained roof is absolutely essential for protecting our homes and families. When the time comes to repair, replace, or upgrade our roofing system, finding a trustworthy and competent local contractor becomes a top priority.
Among the many roofing companies serving our community, Average Joe's Roofing is one name you might encounter. As local residents, we understand the importance of choosing a service provider who not only promises quality work but also delivers on those promises with professionalism and care. This article aims to provide a balanced and informative overview of Average Joe's Roofing, drawing upon available public information and customer feedback to help fellow Manitobans make an informed decision when considering their roofing needs.
---Average Joe's Roofing is based at 31 Burnaby Bay, Winnipeg, MB R2C 5G2, Canada. This strategic Winnipeg location provides them with direct access to serve clients throughout the city and surrounding areas in Manitoba. Being a local company means they are familiar with the specific building codes, weather challenges, and community needs prevalent in our region. This proximity allows for timely responses to inquiries, efficient scheduling of projects, and the ability to be on-site quickly, which can be particularly beneficial when dealing with urgent roofing issues caused by our unpredictable Manitoba weather. Their local presence aims to ensure that they are readily available to assess your roofing needs and carry out the necessary work with the convenience that comes from hiring a neighborhood contractor.
---While a comprehensive list of specific services from Average Joe's Roofing isn't fully detailed in the provided information, typical offerings from a professional roofing contractor like them, catering to residential properties in Manitoba, generally include:
Residential Roof Shingling and Replacement: Specializing in the installation of new asphalt shingle roofs, which are common in Manitoba, for both new constructions and full roof replacements. This involves removing old materials and installing new shingles, ensuring proper layering and sealing to protect against water and wind.
Roof Repairs: Addressing various damages such as missing shingles, leaks (e.g., around chimneys, as mentioned in feedback), storm damage (from wind or hail), and general wear and tear that can compromise the integrity of the roof.
Eavestrough and Downspout Installation/Replacement: Crucial for proper water drainage away from the home's foundation, their services would likely include installing or replacing eavestroughs and downspouts.
Gutter Guard Installation: As indicated by customer feedback, they also offer the installation of gutter guards, which help prevent leaves and debris from clogging eavestroughs, reducing maintenance and improving drainage efficiency.
Soffit and Fascia Work: Often, roofing projects involve assessing and repairing or replacing soffit and fascia, which are vital for attic ventilation and completing the aesthetic look of the roofline.
General Exterior Work: The customer feedback mentioning "all the work on our home" suggests a broader scope of exterior services, implying they might handle other related exterior home improvements beyond just the roof itself.
Roof Inspections: Offering assessments to determine the current condition of a roof, identify potential issues, and recommend necessary repairs or maintenance to prolong its lifespan.
Based on the provided customer feedback, Average Joe's Roofing presents a mixed bag of experiences for local clients, highlighting both strengths and areas that may require careful consideration.
Positive Customer Experience (Specific Case): One customer was "more than pleased," noting that the company "did a great job of our roof" and also handled eaves, downspouts, and gutter guards. This indicates that for some projects, the company delivers satisfactory results across multiple exterior components.
Comprehensive Service Offering (Positive): The ability to have "the same company to do all the work on our home" for roofing, eaves, and gutter guards is a significant convenience for homeowners, streamlining the renovation process.
Friendly and Hardworking Crew (Positive): A positive review specifically mentioned that the "crew was really friendly and hard working," contributing to a positive on-site experience.
Good Communication from Management (Positive): For one client, Eric was noted for answering questions "in a polite and considerate fashion," and Joe, the owner, "kept us well informed throughout the project." This highlights instances of effective communication from the company's leadership.
Incomplete Work and Poor Attention to Detail (Negative): A significant concern raised by another customer was that work was left incomplete, with missed sections, damaged shingles, and loose cap shingles, pointing to "poor attention to detail."
Major Cleanup Issues (Negative): A major highlight of concern was the "far from complete" cleanup, leaving "shingle gravel, scraps and nails" scattered in the yard and eaves full of debris. The extensive time spent by the homeowner cleaning up nails post-job is a critical negative point, especially for families with children or pets.
Lack of Follow-Through and Poor Communication (Negative): Despite assurances, the company reportedly failed to return to fix issues, clean up, or address new problems like leaking around the chimney. Multiple calls and messages went unanswered for extended periods, only receiving responses after a BBB complaint, indicating "poor communication and follow through."
Significant Property Damage and Water Leaks (Negative): A severe issue reported was water leaking into the house due to un-flashed chimney work, causing drywall damage. This points to potentially critical installation flaws with significant consequences for the homeowner.
Scheduling and Reliability Concerns (Negative): Repeated instances of missed appointments and promises to show up without doing so severely impact trust and highlight reliability issues.

---For local homeowners in Manitoba, particularly those in Winnipeg, choosing a roofing contractor is a decision that impacts the long-term integrity and safety of their property. Average Joe's Roofing, being based in Winnipeg, offers the advantage of local accessibility and presumed familiarity with the specific challenges of our climate.
Based on the provided customer experiences, Average Joe's Roofing presents a spectrum of outcomes. On one hand, some clients have reported complete satisfaction, praising the crew's friendliness, hard work, comprehensive service offering (including eaves and gutter guards), and effective communication from management. For these individuals, the company delivered a positive and integrated home improvement experience, making them a suitable choice for similar projects.
However, it is crucial for prospective local clients to be aware of the significant concerns raised by other customers. Issues such as incomplete work, substantial cleanup failures (especially regarding nails and debris), severe communication breakdowns, repeated missed appointments, and critically, direct property damage due to apparent installation errors (like un-flashed chimneys leading to water leaks), are serious red flags. The reported need to escalate issues to a BBB complaint to elicit a response, and even then, still experiencing unfulfilled promises, highlights potential challenges with accountability and follow-through for some clients.
Therefore, while Average Joe's Roofing might be suitable for some local residents based on positive testimonials, it is paramount for any Manitoban considering their services to exercise extreme caution and conduct thorough due diligence. This should include:
Seeking Multiple Bids: Always compare quotes and proposals from several reputable local contractors.
Checking References Diligently: Ask for references from recent projects and contact them to inquire about their full experience, including any post-completion issues or warranty claims.
Reviewing Contracts Meticulously: Ensure every detail, including scope of work, materials, timeline, cleanup procedures, warranty information, and payment schedules, is clearly documented and understood before signing.
Understanding Warranty and Follow-up Procedures: Clarify how the company handles deficiencies, warranty claims, and what communication channels are reliable for post-completion issues.
Verifying Insurance and Licensing: Always confirm the contractor has valid liability insurance and is properly licensed in Manitoba.
In conclusion, for local residents, Average Joe's Roofing offers the convenience of a Winnipeg-based contractor with the potential for positive outcomes, as evidenced by some satisfied customers. However, the serious nature of the negative feedback warrants significant caution. It is advisable for any local considering this company to have a clear, written agreement for all aspects of the job, including comprehensive cleanup clauses, and a robust understanding of their process for addressing any potential issues or deficiencies.

Average Joe's Roofing Reviews
We contracted Average Joes to shingle our roof in November last year. They complete most of the shingling in a week but left saying they were finished even though I pointed out that they had missed a portion over our back door and that clean-up was far from complete. I also took a look on the roof and saw that a shingle in the valley was damaged and about 6 roof cap shingles were loose. While they did come back a couple days later they did not do any further clean-up. My concern was that the eaves were full of shingle scraps and the yard was scattered with shingle gravel, scraps and nails. With snow coming I knew this would be more difficult to clean up later. They did come a week later but did not clean the eaves as they were frozen. They scrapped up a pile of shingle scraps and nails and just dumped it on the blvd in front of the house. With some warm weather melting the snow away I decided to clean up nails so my children could play on the yard. I spend over 4 hours picking up a gallons worth of nails off the yard. Turned out to be double that in spring. They assured me they would come back in spring to take care of the issues. They messaged me in January that they were coming, with the yard covered in snow and the eaves still frozen I told them to come in spring. In April they messaged and said they were coming but never showed up. I followed up at the end of April asking when they were coming as we now had water leaking into our house because they had not flashed around the chimney. Although I messaged and called multiple times they did not respond until mid July saying thew would come out and fix the issues. Once again nobody came out, they only responded to me once I had made a complaint on BBB. They messaged and said they would come and fix the issue but once again never sent anyone. Finally they messaged that they would be there on June 26th. They did not come, they said they would be there in a couple hours on the 27th, but again they did not come. All the while each time it rained (5 times at least) water was leaking into the house damaging the drywall. Water was also overflowing the eaves troughs and not draining away from the house properly. And we continue to find nails and shingle scraps on the yard where my kids play. I have not heard from them since the 27th of June. I would not recommend Average Joes based on the pool attention to detail, lack of clean-up and poor communication and follow through. I am still hoping they come and take care of these issues but am also reaching out to other companies to come take care of this.
